Barbara Olendzki, RD, MPH, LDN is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center for Applied Nutrition at University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS), and UMass Memorial Health Care. She has been a registered dietitian for almost 20 years. Her list of publications is lengthy and broadly focused on obesity treatment/management, diabetes management, and nutrition intervention for gastrointestinal health. The microbiome is a focus of her current research and clinical care for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). She is currently crowdsourcing a clinical trial of dietary intervention to define diet-microbiome-inflammation interactions that promote health for patients with IBD. This multi-disciplinary research project will be completed in coordination with the UMass Center for Microbiome Research (CMR), MassBiologics, and the UMMS Division of Gastroenterology. She will guide us through the current evidenced based treatments and interventions for IBD.

Program Objectives:
• Utilize diet as a substrate for balancing the microbiota
• Examine factors that may contribute to the development and progression of IBD
• Discuss what’s next in research and clinical care
