About the Speaker:

Carolyn Stocker will enter her first year as an Assistant Professor of Nutrition Sciences, a Strength and Conditioning Coach, and Coordinator of Sports Nutrition at Springfield College in Springfield, MA. Carolyn recently completed her Masters of Science degree in Strength and Conditioning from Springfield College, where she was a strength and conditioning coach for the men’s and women’s cross country and distance track and field team, as well as a sports dietitian for all teams. Carolyn offers nutrition screening for every athlete, individual assessments and counseling, team talks, nutrition education postings throughout campus, and grocery store and dining hall tours.

Carolyn is a graduate of the University of Maine in Orono, ME, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Nutrition. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she completed her dietetic internship at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA.

A talented endurance athlete through high school and college, Carolyn continues her athletic pursuits racing to the United States Track & Field Club team, Western Mass Distance Project and the United States Snowshoe Team.

Program Objectives:

  • Recognize the role sports dietitians play in the collegiate athletic environment.
  • Emphasize the importance of proper fueling and hydration for collegiate athletes.
  • Identify the special needs of different athletes.
  • Provide an overview of commonly used dietary supplements, how they are regulated, and how to avoid the use of non-permissible ingredients.
  • Describe Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S), the current data, and how collegiate athletics are approaching it.

  • *Dinner to be provided; 2 RD CEU’s for attending*
