Subject: Local Nutrition Professionals hold Legislators’ Breakfast
The Western Area Massachusetts Dietetic Association (WAMDA), a group of nutrition professionals, held their annual Legislators’ Breakfast at the Delaney House in Holyoke on April 28, 2017. The goal of this gathering was to introduce Western Mass legislators to dietitians/nutritionists’ involvement in disease prevention and wellness policy on the state and local level. Ten legislators or their aides attended to hear about the impact of nutrition on the health of the community.
WAMDA has joined the Massachusetts Prevention Trust Coalition as a sponsor of the Prevention and Wellness Trust Fund (PWTF). PWTF has increased access to preventive services for nearly 1 million people across every region of the Commonwealth. PWTF invests in evidence-based community interventions that keep residents healthy and safe and is helping to transform the linkages between clinical care and community-based services.
Judy Dowd, MA, RD, LDN, legislative chairperson for WAMDA, moderated the event. Nicole Knee, MS, RDN, LDN spoke on the role of the Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist in prevention and wellness.
