Stay Current! A message from the WAMDA President

Kathryn Rocha

I want to start by thanking the members of the Western Area Massachusetts Dietetic Association for being active members of our local, state, and national organization. In the current climate of our changing healthcare landscape, it is more important than ever to come together with a united voice to speak on the importance of Registered Dietitians and Diet Technicians and our role in promoting optimal health. If we choose to sit back during this time and ask “What is The Academy doing for us?”, we will get lost in the fast paced changing healthcare culture. At the same time, if we choose to stand up and come together as nutrition professionals, we have the opportunity to help shape the new healthcare landscape into one that includes nutrition as a foundational piece of the new healthcare model.

As WAMDA President for the 2013-2014 year, I hope to work with the wonderful members of our WAMDA Board to create an environment in which our members feel comfortable reaching out and becoming involved. Please utilize our newly revamped website to reach out to any of us with questions and ideas. Please take the time to come to the exciting programs we have planned and network with area RDs and DTRs.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
        — Margaret Mead

I look forward to working with all of you this year. Thank you for the honor of serving as the WAMDA President for the 2013-2014 year.

Kathryn Rocha, MBA, RD, LDN
