Get to Know a WAMDA BoD Member: Andrea Luttrell, RDN, LDN – Executive Secretary

What inspired you to pursue a career in nutrition and dietetics?
I was attending Holyoke Community College pursuing a degree in business and during my last semester, I decided to take an Intro to Nutrition course as an elective because I thought it sounded interesting. Once in that class, I was so impressed by the role food played on overall wellness and immediately began thinking about how this knowledge could help my family. I decided to switch from business to nutrition and the rest is history!
Why did you become a WAMDA member?
I became a WAMDA member to network with other local dietitians and to find continuing education opportunities. Now I serve on the Board to give back to the profession and I find it very rewarding!
What goals do you have for your career?
Three goals I have are to expand my culinary skills to improve how I can educate through food; work on public speaking and presentation delivery; and to be a leader within the retail RD space by bringing unique and impactful programs in the supermarket to life.
What are your favorite hobbies outside of work?
Outside of work, I love to bake and read – I find those things so relaxing after long and busy days!
