The Origin of Digital Health, How Boston Children’s Hospital has Leveraged Virtual Care, and Applications for Nutrition and Dietetics Professionals

About the Speakers

Caroline has experience working in pediatric nutrition as well as, cystic fibrosis, heart failure, heart transplant, cardiac risk factors including hypertension, high cholesterol, and obesity, diabetes, and overall wellness. Caroline is currently a dietitian for the preventive cardiology division as well as the cardiac advanced therapies division at Boston Children’s Hospital. Caroline received her undergraduate degree in food and nutrition from the University of Alabama while concurrently completing her dietetic internship. Caroline then went on to complete her master’s degree in nutrition at the University of Alabama. She was selected as a nutrition fellow for the Pediatric Pulmonary Center at University of Alabama at Birmingham where she specialized in pediatric cystic fibrosis and other pulmonary diseases at Children’s of Alabama.

Caitlin is the manager of Boston Children’s Hospital’s direct to patient virtual visit program. She also serves as a project manager across the Innovation and Digital Health Accelerator; focusing on business development and implementation of new virtual care services at Boston Children’s. In addition to her daily responsibilities, Caitlin creates professional development opportunities within her team and across Boston Children’s. She serves at the Professional Development and Partnership lead for Boston Children’s Young Professionals group, and organizes professional development “lunch and learn” interactive lectures and workshops for the Innovation and Digital Health team. Caitlin received her both Master’s in Public Health and Bachelor’s of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Program Objectives

  1. Understand the origin of telehealth/digital health (e.g. key players and early technologies)
  2. Know where we stand in digital health today (e.g. new players and current technologies)
  3. Know the benefits of digital health to different stakeholders (e.g. payors, patients, clinicians)
  4. Understand how Boston Children’s Hospital leverages digital health and virtual care
  5. Learn the applications of digital health and virtual care to nutrition and dietetics
