Kris M. Mogensen, MS, RD, LDN, CNSC is an instructor at Boston University where she teaches Medical Nutrition Therapy and serves on the Nutrition Department’s committee for Commission on Dietetic Registration accreditation of the Nutritional Science/Dietetics program. She is also an Educational Consultant with the Boston University School of Medicine’s Global Health Collaborative, in participation with the Abbott Fund Institute for Nutrition Science Grant for the development and presentation of nutrition academic programs at Hanoi Medical University in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Kris M. Mogensen also brings us her experiences as an inpatient Metabolic Support Service (MSS) dietitian and team leader in the Department of Nutrition at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She works in conjunction with the MSS attending physicians, responsible for inpatient parenteral nutrition (PN) consults and evaluation of PN requests. She has been a registered dietitian for over 20 years and has published numerous articles on malnutrition and nutrition support.

Objectives:
• Identify three patient populations at risk for essential fatty acid deficiency (EFAD)
• Interpret biochemical measures of fatty acids to determine presence/absence of EFAD
• Identify two interventions to prevent or treat EFAD
